Tips for Vancouver hosts
Plan for the rain. From October to April, most of the mess comes in through the front door. A washable mat, a boot tray and a spot for umbrellas keep wet footprints off the floors — and a quick mop of the entry is the last thing to do before you lock up.
Fight the humidity. Damp months mean condensation on windows and mildew in showers. Run the bathroom fan during the clean, wipe window sills, and check caulking every visit so a small spot never turns into a bad review.
Know your strata's rules. Many listings are in strata buildings with their own rules for garbage rooms, recycling sorting and visitor parking. Put those rules in writing for whoever cleans, so a mis-sorted bin never becomes a complaint to the owner.
Start with laundry. A common setup is an 11 a.m. check-out and a 3 or 4 p.m. check-in. The cleaning itself fits in that window; the washer and dryer are what run late. Start the first load before anything else — or keep a second set of linens so beds can be made while the first set washes.
